Edinburgh College will host three graduation ceremonies on Friday 8 November 2024 for successful students from Higher National programmes and those who have studied at SCQF Level 7 and above.

Class of 2024 -  Ceremonies

The ceremonies are as follows:

Faculty of Health, Wellbeing and Social Science

Ceremony One – 10.45am

  • Registration - 8.30am - 10.15am 
  • Doors open – 9.30am
  • Seated by 10.30am

Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality and Business

Ceremony Two – 2.45pm

  • Registration - 1.00pm - 2.15pm
  • Doors open – 1.30pm
  • Seated by 2.30pm

Faculty of Engineering and Construction

Ceremony Two – 2.45pm

  • Registration - 1.00pm - 2.15pm
  • Doors open – 1.30pm
  • Seated by – 2.30pm

Faculty of Creative Industries

Ceremony Three – 6.00pm

  • Registration - 4.30pm - 5.30pm
  • Doors open – 5.00pm
  • Seated by – 5.45pm

Photography, Gowning and Tickets

All graduates MUST wear an academic gown and hood. This should be booked via our supplier Marston Robing when registering to attend.

Costs

Gown Hire: £30

Guest Tickets: £7 each

(All graduate tickets are free and guest tickets must be purchased at £7 each with a maximum of 2 guest tickets per graduate). Further tickets may become available nearer the time and can be requested at the time of booking. 

All children under 5 years old are free but a ticket must be booked as part of the allocation, please note on the special requirements area if you will be attending with young children.

Children can attend the ceremony, but you should note that it may not be suitable for very young children because of the content and length.

No students may take part in the ceremony unless they have registered before the deadline.

Photography

Graduates could pre-book portrait photography with our photography provider, Marston Photography via the booking link. We suggest you go along to have your photographs taken before your ceremony if possible.

If you have not booked photography, you can still arrange to have this taken on the day.

A stage photograph will also be taken of each student, which will be available to purchase online after the event.  

Your Questions Answered

When will I receive my invitation to Graduation?

Invitations were sent out to eligible students via email. 

I was unable to graduate in 2023 due to the resulting boycott, can I attend graduation this year?

If you were affected by the resulting boycott in 2023 and would like to graduate this year, please contact graduation@edinburghcollege.ac.uk with information on the course you studied and your student number so that we can look into this for you.  

What do I need to do on the day?

All graduates should arrive at the McEwan Hall no later than 1 hour before the start of their ceremony. We'll send out more information about what will happen on the day closer to the time. 

How long is the ceremony?

Ceremonies will last around 1 hour, approximately.

How many guests can I bring?

A maximum of 2 guests per graduate.

Tickets for children under 5 years old are free but must be counted as part of allocation of 2.

Limited additional tickets may become available nearer the time and should be requested at the time of booking. 

All tickets once purchased are non-refundable.

Will the event be live streamed?

Each ceremony will be live streamed on the day, enabling family and friends who cannot attend to share in the graduate experience. The link for the live stream will be shared with all graduates ahead of the day and the stream can only be accessed by those with the link.

Do I need to order a robe?

All graduating students must wear the correct gown and hood for their award. These can be hired from our supplier Marston Robing, for the cost of £30.

Which robe should I order?

Our robing company Marston Robing have produced a drop-down menu where you can select your ceremony date, time, choose your course and it will apply the correct robe to your course.

Will I receive a certificate?

Graduates will receive a scroll on stage and then an Edinburgh College commemorative certificate as they come off stage.

Gowns

If, for whatever reason, you are no longer able to attend your ceremony, the following refund policy for Gowns will be in place:

Before midnight on 1 November, a refund will be given on gowns, however a £10 administration fee will be charged. No refunds will be given for any cancellations of gowns after Midnight on 1 November.

Tickets

All guest tickets once purchased are non-refundable. 

Me, or my guests, have accessibility requirements, can these be accommodated?

You will be asked during the registration process for any accessibility requirements with the opportunity to detail requirements.

Can my guests or I bring a buggy/pushchair?

Due to space and health and safety guidelines all buggies and pushchairs need to be left at the entrance area with babies/children carried from this point.

I didn’t receive details of my ceremony but think I should have been invited, what should I do? 

Please email graduation@edinburghcollege.ac.uk with your name, student ID and course title so we can look into this for you.  

What's the dress code for the day?

All graduating students must wear the correct gown and hood for their award.

The dress code consists of your gown, hood, and formal dress.
