Duty of Care and Safeguarding
Edinburgh College has a duty of care to safeguard all students, and to ensure that the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults is a priority. We have policy and procedures in place to protect children, young people and vulnerable adults from abuse, neglect or significant harm.
Who are the Safeguarding Team?
The Safeguarding Team is made up of two Safeguarding Leads
- Kara McKenzie-Tait (Wednesday to Friday)
- Craig Hughes (Monday and Tuesday)
The Safeguarding Leads are responsible for addressing all safeguarding concerns, reports, or disclosures related to students. If you need to contact them, please email Safeguardingleads@edinburghcollege.ac.uk.

If you have any questions or concerns about disclosing charges or criminal convictions, or if you are unsure about what information you should provide please contact the Safeguarding Leads on safeguardingleads@edinburghcollege.ac.uk or call 0131 297 8081. The Safeguarding Leads will be able to provide the necessary supports and safeguards to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
At Edinburgh College, we believe that all members of the College community have the right to study and work without experiencing any form of gender-based violence, abuse or harassment. Edinburgh College will not tolerate gender-based violence in any form.

Fearless Edinburgh
We are proud to be active members of the Fearless Edinburgh Partnership, a regional partnership across Edinburgh.
We are a multi-agency partnership tackling and preventing gender-based violence in all its forms through joint strategic and operational actions. Primarily focusing on further and higher education settings we are committed to ending sexual violence by challenging harmful behaviours and attitudes alongside supporting those impacted and building confidence. Informed by Equally Safe, our common purpose is to deliver safer communities and culture change; a Fearless Edinburgh.'
As a partnership, we recognise that our student community in particular has shared spaces where we can better support our communities by working together.
Everyone has a responsibility to keep children, young people and vulnerable adults safe. If you have a safeguarding concern about yourself , another student or someone in the community, please make a member of Edinburgh College staff aware.
