The Dance Teaching in Schools (SCQF level 7) course is specifically designed for Secondary school teachers who currently deliver NPA through to Higher Dance qualifications and require SCQF credits at level 7.
The course will consist of 4 units in Dance Technique (Jazz and Contemporary), Choreography and Dance History. This combination of practical and theoretical units will successfully allow teachers in schools to develop their dance skills and enhance teaching with a particular focus on NPA and Higher Dance qualifications. This course will lead to further study to gain level 8 qualifications in the 2025-2026 academic year.

This part-time course will be delivered utilising in-person practical sessions and online/distance learning modes. This will include regular one-day intensives and monthly Friday afternoon sessions on campus at Edinburgh College. This will be supplemented by online seminars and online learning materials. The course is designed to have an element of flexibility to work around your school teaching commitments.
How the course is assessed
- The assessments for the course will include both practical (dance technique and choreography) and academic submissions.
Entry requirements
- Practical dance experience.
- Currently delivering NPA through to Higher dance.
- Current teacher in Secondary School with a PE or Drama focus.
Career options
- Gain SQA required qualification to deliver NPA/Higher dance in Secondary Schools at SCQF Level 7 and progress onto SCQF Level 8.
