Course overview

This course is for S5 and S6 pupils who are still at school.

This course introduces learners to the nature of health and social care work. It includes investigating the types of health and social care establishments available and the roles of care workers in these settings. Candidates will also be investigating the principles of good care practice and exploring what constitutes day-to-care work, for example identifying people’s needs and strengths and learning how care workers try to meet those needs through care plans.

    How the course is assessed

    • The course is assessed through SQA national assessments and projects

    Number of days per week

    • 2 afternoons per week, Tuesday and Thursday 1.30 PM - 4.00 PM

    Entry requirements

    • Health and Social Care National 5 or four National 5’s (including English)
    • A genuine interest in working in/studying health and social care
    • If you want to progress onto full-time health courses at SCQF Level 6 you must have a National 5 Biology or Higher Biology for HNC Care and Administrative Practice.

    English Proficiency Requirements

    IELTS 5.5

    N.b.  Students who wish to use this course for entry requirements for a Nursing Degree must also have Higher English and Higher Biology.
