Are you thinking about your next steps after you finish school? Here are five reasons you should study with us in session 2021/22.
College is an investment in your future
With the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, this year has probably turned out a bit different from what you expected, but your future is still waiting for you! College is an excellent investment in your future as you will be equipping yourself with subject-specific training and knowledge, as well as transferable skills that employers look for.
At college, you can choose to study with us from one year to four years, depending on the course you study and the path you take. One year of study might be all you need to get ready for the world of work, but you can stay with us longer to discover your specialism by studying a Higher National Diploma (HND) or even the equivalent of a university degree.
College will prepare you for what comes next
Moving from school to university or employment is a big step and college can help you with the transition. At college you will have more responsibility for your learning, you will be developing lots of new skills, and have an opportunity to find what you’re interested in.
Our guidance staff and Learning Development Tutors (LDTs) will support you with your next steps after college, whether it’s help with interview techniques and preparing for employment or university applications.
College can be flexible
Unlike school, college is a bit more flexible. A full-time course is typically three days a week, so this means you will have time for hobbies, spending time with friends, and part-time work.
College is a supportive place
You will receive a warm welcome at Edinburgh College as you join our EC Community.
When you start your studies, you will be assigned a Learning Development Tutor (LDT) who will be your main point of contact during your time at college. You can also get support from our guidance and wellbeing teams who can help with things like student finance, finding part-time work, CV preparation, study skills and mental health support.
There will be lots of opportunities to meet new people at college, either online or at a campus. These new people may turn into life-long friends who will support you long after your time at college!

College does come with a cost attached to it, so funding is an important thing to think about when starting your studies. You will need to consider course fees and living expenses.
