Edinburgh College’s Make-up Artistry students learn from industry experts to mark Black History Month
A group of Edinburgh College students marked this year’s Black History Month by taking part in a two-day creative workshop led by local industry experts.
The College’s HND Make-up Artistry students took part in the two-day workshop, which focused on working with textured hair and make up for women of colour.
Under the expert guidance of award-winning make-up artist Joyce Connor and afro hair styling academy owner Joy Djadi, the students learned more about the skills and techniques required by make-up artists and hair stylists to work with people of colour.
Across both days, students had the opportunity to put what they had learned into practice, by giving volunteer models from the local community a makeover, which included hair styling and make-up application.
All students were also provided with an opportunity to have a professional photographer capture their work, allowing them to add new images to their portfolio collection.
Black History Month (BHM) UK takes place annually every October and aims to promote and celebrate Black contributions to British society, and to foster an understanding of Black history in general. This year's theme is ‘Reclaiming Narratives’.
