Super start for local sparks! Edinburgh College electrical apprentices gifted free starter toolkits

Christmas has come early for a group of Edinburgh College students as they each received a free electrical starter kit from one of the UK's largest electrical wholesalers as part of an initiative that aims to help first-year electrical students get their apprenticeships off to best possible start.

In partnership with SECTT (Scottish Electrical Charitable Training Trust), who oversee the industry-approved training programme for electrical apprenticeships in Scotland, Edmundson Electrical gifted around 80 of the College’s first-year electrical apprentices with a free electrical starter kit to help them get started in the industry.

Darren, Dean and Mark from Edmundson Electrical visited the College’s Sighthill Campus recently to officially handover the kits, which contain all of the main tools required by apprentices just starting out in the industry including all insulated screwdrivers, insulated pliers, side cutters, magnetic level, tape measure, junior hacksaw, and more.

Edinburgh College curriculum team manager for Construction Gary Austin said: “I would like to thank Edmundson Electrical for coming in to meet with all of our first-year students and officially hand over their new electrical starter toolkits. I know our students were eager to get their hands on the kit and are very grateful for this initiative, which ensures they now have all the tools they need to help them get started in the industry.”

The initiative is part of a wider programme of support offered by the Edmundson Electrical group, which aims to provide every first-year electrical apprentice all over Scotland with a free toolkit.

Darren Coppola of Edmundson Electrical said: “It was a pleasure to come into the college and meet with the newest apprentices to join the electrical industry and support them with their first ever tool kits. I have personally been part of this amazing industry for over 35 years and have always found the people to be welcoming and supportive and would always recommend an electrical apprenticeship to all.”

Liam Reid, SECTT Training Officer for Edinburgh and Lothians, said: “It’s great to have Edmundson Electrical support our young apprentices with these toolkits for the fourth year running. It’s a huge commitment and gives the apprentices a great starting kit on which to build upon throughout their apprenticeship. Darren, Dean and Mark have made the process really streamlined and added a very personal touch by coming in to present each apprentice with the kits. As you can see from the pictures all six classes of stage one apprentices are delighted. It’s great to see the engagement between all parties involved. Thanks to Gary Goodall, our Electrical Technician, for the work he does behind the scenes to ensure the day ran smoothly.”
