Course overview

This rewarding studio-based HND provides a broad and advanced visual education, knowledge and awareness of Contemporary and Fine Art practices.

You will develop individual practice concerning your interests and benefit from having your own studio space throughout the course. You are encouraged to research, develop, contextualise and evaluate their concepts and practice in response to your subject choices.

The course develops critical thinking, reflective and evaluative skills and widens your understanding of the influence and contribution made by art practice and practitioners within the 20th and 21st centuries. You will respond to creative challenges through the exploration of a wide range of traditional and non-traditional art media, materials and approaches with drawing and studio practice central to the course.

Opportunities exist to work individually and collaboratively, supported by group discussion, and personal and individual support. Professional practice and Exhibition studies provide you with the knowledge of potential careers, and opportunities to present your work and make applications for further study.

The course has strong links with the Contemporary Art scene and is the base for the school's artists in Residence studio and student-led HubCap Gallery.

Our Contemporary Art Practice students are very successful, receive advanced entry offers to prestigious degree-level programmes across the UK and become successful Artists.
