Course overview
The HND Sound Production course is the equivalent of the first two years of our 3-year BA (Hons) Audio Production degree programme. On successful completion of the course, you can continue to the 3rd year and final year of the degree programme.
The course will equip you with the skills, knowledge, and hands-on experience needed to thrive in the ever-evolving audio industry. With state-of-the-art facilities and industry-standard equipment, including a suite of studios including four SSL studios, four pre-sonus studios, specialist spatial audio post-production rooms and a 200-capacity auditorium.
Our curriculum covers everything from studio recording techniques to live sound engineering, audio production for audiovisuals, sound design, and post-production. You'll gain proficiency in using industry-standard software and hardware, honing your skills in our sector-leading facilities, and working with our staff, who have a wealth of knowledge and experience across all areas of audio production.
Whatever your background and ambitions, the HND course will allow you to develop a creative portfolio and network and get an edge in audio and music production.

How the course is assessed
- The majority of the course is assessed through the completion of integrated practical projects. The grade classification for each year is assigned through the completion of the graded unit which is student-led and draws on the knowledge and skills gained throughout the rest of the course.
Number of days per week
- 2.5 days per week (in college)
- At least 1 additional day of self-study for the completion of project work
Entry requirements
- Two Highers (or equivalent) and core skills at SCQF Level 5.
- Direct entry to the second year is possible if you have completed an HNC in Sound Production with 15 credits. You can apply by emailing CRI@edinburghcollege.ac.uk to register your interest.

- Upon completion of your application you will be invited to an interview with a member of the course team.
- Please prepare an examples of work to share at the application relevant to sound production.
