Course overview
The HND Textiles course is a contemporary and innovative course that provides an advanced design education for students with a strong interest in the wider specialist areas of Textiles. The course allows students to progress onto Degree level study or employment in the fields of Textiles, Print, Weave, Knit, Fashion Design, Fashion Illustration, Retail Technology and Communications.
Drawing, contextual research and the development of specialist Fashion and Textiles skills underpin the course delivery. You will benefit from working in our dedicated Fashion and Textiles studios and MacLabs using a range of specialist equipment including over lockers, domestic and industrial sewing machines, digital embroidery machines, tailors dummies, heat presses and screen printing and pattern cutting tables and exposure units to explore the creative potential of media and fabric. Students are supported by specialist staff to explore a wide range of approaches including garment construction, screen printing, fine art textiles, surface decoration, pattern drafting, embroidery, knit and weave to produce and present personal design solutions in response to design briefs with a focus on sustainability and environment. HND Textiles students regularly present their finished design outcomes in exhibitions and a yearly Fashion and Textiles show in the City Art Centre.
Our Textiles students are very successful and receive advanced entry offers on to prestigious Degree-level programmes across the UK and become successful Textile Designers and wider employment opportunities in the Fashion and Textiles industry.

How the course is assessed
- This a practical studio-based course assessed by portfolio submission throughout the year.
Entry requirements
- Year one: Two Highers or UAL level 2/3 or Foundation Diploma or SQA NC at SCQF Level 6
- Year two: Pass all 15 credits available at HNC Level
- You must submit a portfolio that demonstrates your advanced art and design skills and an understanding of the creative process
- Adult learners with relevant employment/life experience/skills will be considered for entry to this course.

All applicants for this course are required to submit a Digital Portfolio and will be invited to a portfolio review session
